David Kitay

The son of a professional opera singer, David Kitay grew up surrounded by music and began playing the guitar at seven. By nineteen, he was an in-demand session guitarist recording with artists including Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, and Bonnie Raitt.

Kitay’s film scoring career took off with Look Who’s Talking, launching a long collaboration with director Amy Heckerling that led to hits like Clueless, Can’t Hardly Wait, Scary Movie, and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. His work in independent film includes acclaimed scores for Ghost World, Bad Santa, and Art School Confidential.

A four-time BMI Award winner for his work on Mad About You and other projects, Kitay continues to compose and produce from his home base in New York.

Jackson Spargur

Jackson Spargur is a composer from Los Angeles now based in upstate New York. In 2020 he graduated from Bard Conservatory of Music, where he studied with acclaimed composers George Tsontakis, Joan Tower, and Susan Botti.

During his time at Bard, Jackson premiered many concert pieces with the Da Capo Chamber Players, as well as the Bard Conservatory Orchestra. In 2025 he recorded a string quartet in Pavia, Italy, and in 2023 he recorded with the Orchestra della Toscana at the Verdi Theater in Florence, as a part of the Chigiana Film Scoring program.

In addition to his work in scoring Jackson has experience in a wide array of musical services, such as arrangement, transcription, and orchestration. Jackson is also a multi instrumentalist specializing in violin, mandolin, and guitar

Our Collaboration

Kitay and Spargur started writing music together in 2023. In 2024 they collaborated on their first score, for the jazz-infused documentary A Life in Rhythm: The Ray Conniff Story, which premiered that year in the Woodstock Film Festival. In early 2025 they wrote their second score, for Lahaina Rising, an award-winning documentary on the devastating fire that destroyed Lahaina, Hawaii in 2023.
